Kimono for child in tsutsugakizome with design of puppies and pine trees

A child born in the year of the dog - see our Japanese Design Motifs - wore this little lined kimono with a design of plump little puppies under a pine tree; on the front panels are bamboo grass.  Five family crests are across the shoulders front and back, perhaps a stylized plum blossom to complete the Three Friends group.  The drawing is done with painterly skill and organization; please see details below.

Dimensions about 30" x 37" with typical tucks in shoulders for letting out as child grows, but also used permanently as an endearing feature of childhood kimono.  Completely lined with solid indigo in a shade similar to the kimono ground, and with a slightly padded hem.
